The Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius 'Powder Blue') is a captivating and peaceful freshwater fish highly prized for its striking coloration and manageable size, making it a popular choice for community aquariums. Males exhibit a stunning iridescent powder blue body with subtle red-orange finnage, while females are typically duller in comparison. These labyrinth fish possess an accessory breathing organ, allowing them to take gulps of atmospheric air, so ensure the water surface is accessible. They thrive in well-planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots and subdued lighting, which enhances their vibrant hues. A gentle water flow and a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C) are ideal. Being omnivores, their diet should consist of high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms to maintain optimal health and color. While generally peaceful, males can be territorial with each other, so it's best to keep a single male or a male-female pair in most setups. Avoid keeping them with fin-nippers or overly boisterous tankmates.
