The Celestial Pearl Danio, often affectionately called the CPD, is a jewel among freshwater aquarium fish, renowned for its striking beauty despite its diminutive size. Reaching only about 0.75 to 1 inch (2-2.5 cm) in length, this tiny marvel boasts an iridescent, deep blue-green body adorned with a constellation of pearl-like spots, truly living up to its celestial name. Males display vibrant reddish-orange fins tipped with black, particularly when vying for the attention of females, whose coloration is generally more subdued. These peaceful, schooling fish thrive in well-planted nano or community aquariums of 5 gallons or more, where their shyness can be mitigated by the presence of ample hiding spots and a group of at least 6-10 individuals. They prefer stable water parameters, with temperatures ranging from 72-79°F (22-26°C) and a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 6.5-7.5. An omnivorous diet consisting of high-quality micro-pellets or flakes, supplemented with live or frozen daphnia, brine shrimp, and microworms, will ensure their vibrant colors and overall health. Compatible with other small, peaceful species, the Celestial Pearl Danio is an enchanting addition that brings a dynamic splash of color and activity to any well-maintained planted tank.
Tiny and can be shy.
