The Knight Goby, scientific name Stigmatogobius sadanundio, is a fascinating and strikingly patterned brackish water fish that makes a captivating addition to the specialized aquarium.Originating from estuaries and coastal regions across Asia, these gobies are recognized by their robust bodies, large heads, and prominent eyes.Their coloration typically features a mottled pattern of dark brown or black blotches and stripes over a lighter tan or grey base, often accented by iridescent flecks that shimmer under the right lighting.Growing to an average size of 4-5 inches, they possess a characteristically assertive and territorial demeanor, making them best suited for a species-specific tank or with robust, similarly sized brackish water companions.A Knight Goby aquarium should ideally be at least 20 gallons for a single specimen, larger for multiples, and should mimic their natural brackish environment with a specific gravity of 1.005 to 1.015.They are primarily carnivorous, eagerly accepting a varied diet of frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, Mysis shrimp, and high-quality sinking pellets or flakes.Plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, rockwork, and dense planting (brackish tolerant species like Java Fern or Anubias), are essential to provide security and help mitigate their territorial tendencies.A soft sand or fine gravel substrate is preferred, as they enjoy sifting through it.While not a beginner fish due to their specific water requirements, an aquarist willing to provide the proper brackish setup will be rewarded with an engaging and visually appealing inhabitant.
Brackish water fish. Can be territorial with other bottom dwellers.
