The Sunshine Peacock (Aulonocara stuartgranti 'Ngara') is a dazzling jewel of the African cichlid world, celebrated for its electrifying coloration and active personality. Hailing from the rocky shores of Lake Malawi, this species is a true showstopper, especially the males, which display a brilliant spectrum of iridescent yellow, orange, and blue. Their bodies are predominantly bright yellow to orange, often with striking blue horizontal stripes or patches, particularly around the head and fins, making them appear as if they've captured a piece of the sun itself. Growing to about 4-6 inches, Sunshine Peacocks are robust and relatively easy to care for, making them a popular choice for intermediate to advanced cichlid keepers. They thrive in well-maintained, spacious aquariums (minimum 55 gallons) with plenty of rockwork for territories and caves, mimicking their natural habitat. While generally peaceful for an African cichlid, males can be territorial with each other and similar-looking species, so a single male or a group with one male and several females is often recommended. Provide them with a varied diet of high-quality cichlid flakes, pellets, and occasional frozen or live foods. Their vibrant colors and engaging behavior make the Sunshine Peacock an undisputed star in any Malawi cichlid setup, bringing unparalleled brilliance and dynamic activity to your aquatic display.
Peacock. Relatively peaceful for a Malawi, but males will show aggression when breeding.
