Adolfo's Corydoras (Corydoras adolfoi) is a striking and beloved addition to any peaceful community aquarium. Originating from the Rio Negro basin in Brazil, these small, active catfishes are known for their vibrant markings and charming personalities. They typically reach an adult size of about 2 inches (5 cm), making them suitable for tanks as small as 10 gallons, though larger is always better for a school. Their most distinctive feature is a bright orange-red stripe running from the top of their head, just behind the eyes, down to the dorsal fin, contrasting beautifully with their pale, sometimes yellowish, body and a prominent dark band through the eye. Like all Corydoras, they are bottom-dwellers, constantly sifting through substrate in search of food. They are incredibly peaceful and should be kept in schools of at least six individuals to thrive and display their natural behaviors. Ideal tank conditions include soft, acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0-7.2), temperatures between 72-79°F (22-26°C), and a fine sand or smooth gravel substrate to protect their delicate barbels. Provide plenty of hiding spots with live plants, driftwood, and rocks, ensuring open areas for foraging. Adolfo's Corydoras are omnivores and will readily accept high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. They are excellent tank mates for small, peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids. A well-maintained tank with a healthy school of Adolfo's Corydoras will bring endless enjoyment and add a lively touch to the aquarium's lower levels.
Prefers softer, acidic water.
