Their peaceful and non-aggressive temperament makes them an ideal choice for a wide range of aquarists, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts. As true schooling fish, Ember Tetras thrive in groups of at least 8-10 individuals, with larger schools promoting their natural, synchronized swimming behavior and intensifying their already dazzling hues. They are excellent tank mates for other small, docile species such as Otocinclus catfish, Dwarf Corydoras, small Rasboras, and peaceful shrimp species. For optimal health and vibrant color, provide a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots, subdued lighting, and a dark substrate to help accentuate their brilliance. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C), a pH of 5.5-7.0, and hardness between 2-10 dGH. Ember Tetras are omnivores and will readily accept a varied diet of high-quality micro-pellets, flake foods, and small live or frozen offerings like daphnia and brine shrimp.
